Creative Proverbs from the...
Zen* Culture
(* denotes a culture rather than a country)

Background: Zen is an important school of Buddhism for enlightenment (bodhi) achieved by Gautama the Buddha. The school arose in 6th century China, but did not fully develop until the 12th century in Japan. In its secondary developments of mental tranquillity, fearlessness, and spontaneity--all faculties of the enlightened mind--the school of Zen has had lasting influence on the cultural life of Japan.
